BioProfile Nutrigenomics
BioProfile is a development programme of the German federal ministry for science and technology (BMBF) to expand the industrial application of academic knowledge in the life sciences. To shape their specific profile, financial support is given to German regions on a competitive basis. With a concept termed „Genomics and Plant Biotechnology at the Service of Diagnosis, Prevention and Therapy of Nutrition-Related Diseases" the Berlin-Brandenburg region was successful in this competition and will receive up to EUR 18 million of funding for application-related projects in the field of nutrigenomics until 2010. Since the time of grant approval, the protagonists have been busy implementing their concept, with the aim of developing powerful resources, venturing into new areas of application, building up skills and expertise and creating a strong regional profile. Since 2003, the awarded funds have helped to finance numerous innovative projects, ranging from basic research to the development of novel products and services and the formation of spin-off companies.
